About Gibela: Gibela, a collaborative effort between South African and French entities, stands as a leading railway rolling stock manufacturer. Established through the partnership of Ubumbano Rail, Alstom, and New Africa Rail, Gibela is dedicated to modernizing South Africa’s metro fleet, as mandated by the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

Gibela Bursary Program 2024: Fields Covered

Gibela is thrilled to invite ambitious students to apply for their 2024 bursary program. The bursaries are open to students pursuing studies at universities, universities of technology, and TVET colleges. The fields covered include but are not limited to:

For TVET College:

  • Boiler-makers
  • Control and instrumentation technicians
  • Electricians
  • Fitters and Turners
  • Mechanics
  • Millwrights
  • Pattern-makers
  • Plumbers
  • Vehicle-builders
  • Welders

For University and University of Technology:

  • Accounting
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Logistics Management
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Supply Chain

Expenses Covered and Renewal:

  • TVET students: Full tuition fees and a book allowance.
  • University and University of Technology students: Full tuition fees, book allowance, accommodation, and meals.
  • Bursaries are granted annually and renewed based on satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria for Gibela Bursary: For TVET Students:

  • South African citizenship
  • Matric completion
  • Minimum Level 4 in Mathematics, Science, and English in Matric
  • Acceptance or intention to study at a recognized TVET institution
  • Strong academic record and financial need

For University and University of Technology Students:

  • South African citizenship
  • Matric completion
  • Minimum Level 6 in Mathematics, Physical Science, and Accounting in Matric
  • Minimum Level 5 in English in Matric
  • Acceptance or intention to study at a recognized University or University of Technology
  • Strong academic record and financial need
